My question is where are the kids to help in this situation? Why it is we live in such a western individualistic culture where the expectation is that taxpayers struggling under already heavy tax burden are forced to pay ever more taxes to fund age pension increases for house rich but income poor retirees? Most who retireed bought their multimillion dollar houses decades ago for $100k. They should either get a loan against that asset at a sustainable withdrawal rate to be settled when they die as part of their estate, or their kids who will inherit from them should go and help their old parents out and look after them. If parents can hold a kids hand to help take their first steps then certainly it should be their responsibility to help their parents in old age take their last steps.

I have found the below stats from the ABS @ 2022 women on average retire at 63.2 and for men it is 66.9 where as the life expectancy for women is 85.3 and for men it is 81.2.
So women get to enjoy 22.1 years of retirement where as men only get 14.3 years in retirement.
So the gender retirement gap is 7.8 years or 54.5% longer in retirement compared to men. Surely men should have a lower retirement age than women to close the retirement gap between women and men. Therefore men should have a retirement age of 60 and women 67.

I'm 37 and work as a doctor, I won't be retiring until im in my 60s and have no debt and significant assets outside of my super as well as a healthy super and even then if I'm healthy I'll aim to keep working part time as long as I can.
