The Australian's Dennis Shanahan says the election campaign has begun for Scott Morrison, who spent Monday in the Hunter region announcing a study into a $1.5 million hydrogen hub at the Port of Newcastle.
'As soon as we saw the high-vis vest and the hard hats, we knew there's an election around the corner,' Mr Shanahan told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
'We'll see a lot of that, and effectively we're into an election campaign now – everyone knows it has to be by May next year.
'We'll just be in campaign mode, effectively, for the next few months.'
