Australians need to switch on and ask questions. Why was ADF involved in AFG? OBL/UBL was killed in May 2011, in PAK by DEVGRU. Simple question what did ADF achieve in AFG and why did it withdraw in 2021 if OBL/UBL was killed in May 2011. What impact did whack - a - mole COIN ops have on the combat effectiveness of the Taliban. Why was OBL/UBL happily living in PAK, specifically Abbottobad and just down the road from a major ISI facility? Why did ADF leadership "forget" the Yamashita standard? You need to question why ADF was involved in the IRQ war, which was unquestionably a war of aggression and therefore a war crime and you need to question why ADF was in AFG following the execution of Bin Laden. Look at IRQ and AFG, now compare and contrast with JPN and GER, following WWII. It is wrong to be blind to the truth, legacy matters if its seen through the lens of honesty and those that like the jingoism are never those that do the fighting. ANZAC days should reflect the broader truth of war and be a catalyst for understanding, a driver for change, rather than the puerile jingoism of populist flag waving politics.

The ANZACS gave AUSTRALIA their IDENTITY, as many of OZ’s enemy leaders/ commanders etc.. have written about eg ROMMEL stated something like “ give me the AUSTRALIANS to “ take “ ANYTHING and the New Zealander’s to HOLD IT and the war would be over “

I'm surprised that you Aussies were allowed to celebrate the sacrifices of so many of your own, in the defence of our shared values. How different the actions of our, two tone, Metropolitan police in crushing our National Patron Saint Georges Day celebrations in London.

I guess Christmas , or should I write, 'Xmas' is about spending money on things to surprise people with and make them feel guilty thesesays, so you can spell ANZAC with lowercase nzac and rant on about how much you care about military things on April 25th as well as November 11th, just the same, because it won't make much difference over a century after Australia and New Zealand first became recognised globally as nations, because of the tragic defeat in 1915. Whatever makes other people think you're a good person in public, because most of them wouldn't know the difference anyway..

Some of us veterans who have worked at a certain council in S.A. south of Adelaide by about 4 - 6 km on Marion Rd still do not get recognised for our efforts. Instead we and i have been ignored cause we are not good enuff and the Mayor and CEO alongside senior management dosent respect any ex military person. We have NEVER been invited to any ANZAC service coz we are just not worthy to them, even tho if it wasnt for us protecters of Australia these people wouldnt have thier uni degrees and overly paid wages.

My grandmother had four brothers, three of whom went to Gallipoli and they all returned home. One of those three had been to Africa for the Boer war and then wanted to enlist for the second world war by lowering his age. I believe the family scuppered his plans. Although I am Canadian and grew up in NZ the grandmother mentioned was born in Sydney but ended up in Canada with her parents, sister and the one brother who did not go to Gallipoli I am grateful for the connection to that history. If it wasn’t for the difficulties of being Canadian and access to Australia to live and work for me I would probably be there now. I have five wonderful Australian grandchildren that I would love to spend more time with but there you go. I hope all of Australia had a good day, ours in NZ was pretty good.

Erin, you are an embarrassment to these diggers who paid the ultimate sacrifice. They fought against fascist and hardline right-wing populist dictators. Exactly what your new poster boy Elon does these days .
