South Aussie Hotel Venue Manager Joseph Ratcliffe says his venue has temporarily closed due to the new COVID restrictions introduced in South Australia.
It comes after South Australia imposed the one person per four square metres rule on hospitality venues in response to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
'With the public holiday being today and tomorrow, wages being $50 plus and the restrictions only allowing 40 people in my venue at any time, it simply wasn't worth opening,' he told Sky News host Caleb Bond.
Let's not forget how covid has effected the whole of Mt Gambier and surrounding region. Unemployment, Mt Gambier hospital lack of funding, lack of specialists, the low budget for it's Tafe.
Medical practitioners having to service there patients over a 2 to 3 week wait. Do you think that is reasonable for Mt Gambiens? I call it neglectful and lacking compassion to assist the people of Mt Gambier. By the way does Mt Gambier hospital have a birthing facility there?
Some of the staff there are like gold, precious and taken for granted.
Warrnambool has a similar population to Mt Gambier, yet Mt Gambier health care prefer to inconvenience there people to travel 5 hours away instead of using Warrambool healthcare. Would that be because Mt Gambier health care is financially audited by Adelaide? in other words trying to keep the $$$ in South Australia. What is more important the health of Mt Gambier people or the $$$.

Mt Gambier is the second largest city in SA outside Adelaide, the economy has been suffering well before the inception of covid. To lockdown Mt Gambier smashes the moral and self esteem of Mt Gambier people. There health care has been deprived of state and government money to give the people of Mt Gambier a substantial infrastructure of there hospital.
Now to see small business people in Mt Gambier suffering unnecessarily so, I thank Skynews for covering this story because Mt Gambier has lost much media exposure of the years. Mt Gambier could head into a a Ghost town existence, the social fabric seems to be in decline. The youth there need to find some way of connecting with an aim to progress into a prosperous future.
I hope mainstream media can do a story of Mt Gambier to bring back a renewed confidence in a pretty lush green city that was once a thriving economic life there.
