It matters, just as I'm sure it matters you Australia's Indigenous community. It matters when you have mass immigration, when for decades our communities have always been the first stop for migrants who have been consistently embedded in our communities to gentrify us. Especially, when given equal qualification they are preferred because of less seniority in the workplace and much cheaper labor.
When it comes to resources and education we tread water to support and educate ourselves above the necessities. Meanwhile Immigrants have education and jobs programs, sometimes jobs waiting for their arrival. It definitely matters now that the issues of mass immigration are not just problematic for our communities, It's undercutting many other communities. Migration, immigration is not for the "opportunity" of the most workers at the lowest incomes. We should not have been paying for our own exclusion all these decades. Others should not be paying now.
