Each way Marles... Doesn't want to upset the Chinese because he will miss out on 'employment' once the Albanese Government is voted out at the next election...
@wattlebough Says:
If they’re desperate to fill recruiting shortfalls maybe they’ll start opening up positions in the combat arms to straight caucasian males again. That would be a good place to start.
@dpitt1516 Says:
China's defence spending far outstrips Australia's - We cant even stop an illegal immigrant boat from reaching our shores before the papers tell the navy they have arrived !!!! What a joke !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are increasing our budget - fine but yet again too little too late. We need a political party to grow a pair and actually INCREASE our forces NOT JUST REPLACE OLD EQUIPMENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to invest heavily in drone and missile technology. The most effective weapons at the moment in the Ukraine Russian War. We need operational aircraft that aren't as expensive as the F-35s to buy, run and maintain. For gods sake get off your backsides and fast track JAUKUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@anthonybringolf Says:
The 50K bonus was for the officers how do nothing. What about the Other Ranks ( WO to Pte) they got nothing. They are the back bone of the Defence Force.
@Billy-er6cj Says:
Australia clearly indicates its increase defense spending is to counter China, so China's expressed concerns. It seems reasonable and fair. Anothony Albanese repeatedly claimed that Australia has not changed. He is right, but sadly the world has. Australia seriously need to review its sinophobia and AUS-US relation that is deeply rooted in its history. Australia must free itself from the shackle of its colonial past, grows up and thinks independently. The spending on defense against imagery adversaries could better be spent on nation building. The 320 billions on two nuclear submarines could provide free housing, free education and many more, with surplus. Australians must wake up and grow up by questioning decisions by politicians.
@crxdelsolsir Says:
Any criticism from a nation that in the last 10 years was on rapid military build up is to be ignored. China was on a rampage to have the most numerous navy, building multiple aircraft carriers and developing hypersonic missiles etc. They never applied their narrative of consequences to themselves now have they. All Chinese rhetoric, gas lighting and mind games.
@robertdavie1221 Says:
Australia has enjoyed generations of prosperity so where is the defence capability to show for all this wealth? Governments in this country on both sides of politics are elected and then promise all sorts of outcomes, only to do nothing while they serve out their time in office before passing the problem on to the next government who then repeat the same process. Labour sat on the submarine question when they were last in office for six years and did nothing before passing it on to the Coalition government who then lost another nine years. That is why we won't have any submarines to replace the Collins class until the 2040’s. Words mean nothing, anyone can say words. What matters in the end is real military capability which is why China is busily arming itself today. We have been badly served by both sides of politics in this country.
@greghaydon1392 Says:
I can't believe he just said, he wanted more diversity in the armed forces. It has been DEI that's been killing recruitment. All people should be judged on is their loyalty to the country and their abilities, not the colour of your skin. But yet here he is going down the same disastrous path. Just another Labour fool.
@flyboyone Says:
I don't understand why anyone in Australia give a Fc_k about what China thinks about Australia's Defense strategy! We are a Sovereign Nation!, we do whatever Australia needs to do to be able to defend OUR way of life!!!!!!!!!! Of course China is a peace loving Nation!!! It must be true because they said it themselves!!!!! However!!!! If China told me today was Thursday. I would still check!!!!!!
@ambrose816 Says:
Australian leaders, please know that Russia and iran have shown their true colors, and the next country that will show his evil plans are China. Be warned.
@AnchorsAweighNarooma Says:
National Defence Strategy, China builds and Australia is pulling funds from the defence budget. RM "we can recruit people that live in Australia from say from New Zealand, we have 600k" men woman and children, o what about the people from the Arab countries why NZ first ? . All fit and able people should do National Service, its part of building the Australian dream, with that the gov need to supply the goods plus. Marles sorry but you are full of it...lip service.
@timothykorner3080 Says:
People saying they don't get paid enough, yet they're offering a $50k bonus for then to sign on, on top of the perks they get on top of their salaries. So just like politicians, sound like a lot are only in it fir the money, not to "serve their country". Give it time and most of the Defence budget will be for wages.
@axle.australian.patriot Says:
Marls: "OMG! He asked me about chyna... deflect, deflect, deflect."
@mattmacca3990 Says:
Do we have a strategy?
@davidw9325 Says:

@scottnunyah938 Says:
This moron and his bunch of incompetent deceitful muppets have only ever CUT defence budgets and opened given into CHINA'S demands to make our country weaker in both defence and spy networks This GRUB and ALL of the LIEBOR government need to be gone for good at state and federal elections
@darrencarter-fk3oo Says:
Over the last two decades the conditions of service have been continually eroded, leave entitlements reduced, superannuation eroded, medical services reduced, defence housing made more expensive ect ect, and bingo you now have a recruitment and retention problem, in your every shrinking ADF. Solution recruit foreigners 😂😂😂
@jannaZX Says:
Meaningless Sabre rattling - by both sides
@levan2436 Says:
import from chyna. wong, wei, xi, leung...ect. good luck Aussie!
@ohasis8331 Says:
If it's such a peaceful country, it should have no concerns about a nation's *defence* spending.
@Nathan-ry3yu Says:
China is building up its defence. Why can't Australia?
@robertproietti-ricci6403 Says:
CLOWN MARLES RESPONDING ...HAHAHAHA
@SurvivethePoleShift Says:
Oh and Dicky? Do you know WHY Australia faces a VERY COMPLEX Geopolitical "situation"?? It's thanks to the ALP and Australia's homegrown marxist hordes, otherwise known as labor and greens voters & supporters. They empower the CCP to white ant us from the inside out. Dicky Marles is a bullshitting marxist I'm afraid. Love from Chookland 🦘🦘🦘
@SurvivethePoleShift Says:
Boy oh Boy...Elbo, Dick and Badpenny the CCP's Australian Trifactor You know, even though they have the smallest penises in the World the CCP have still managed to fuk Australia and the West in general. It's a good thing I like fried rice. Love from Chookland
@franktully3065 Says:
ALP has never really had any real problem with "left" totalitarianism. That's why DLP split from ALP in 1950s. ALP only ever has had a problem with what it perceives as "right" totalitarianism. That's why they're talking big, like Marles is here, but actually doing nothing significant. Coalition isnt a whole lot better.
@26steve26 Says:
Yes China we dont trust you
@jennyohara4011 Says:

@iangray7904 Says:
Who is going to put their hand up to fight for this country when for the last 20 year, our schools have e been teaching kids to hate Australia
@user-rc4nw6xy5p Says:
China does not ask Australia - on will we let China - buy this or make that - based on what we think is in our interest. So - forget talking about China. For some strange reason - politicians think they have to "name" an enemy to justify defense spending. Defending Australia - is all they have to say. In that - we don't care what someone else does. That's their business. And that's what we have to say. This is our business. The media and politicians - are the ones - who point but wont say China.
@grantsapain Says:
Of course China would prefer easy prey...
@RULE3O3 Says:
Meanwhile somewhere in remote inland China there is exactly replicas of US Warships being built.
@AP-ei4jt Says:
Australia brings up China every time it talks about defense lol. Can you blame China for the rebuttal? China is pretty sick of it. Few other countries conduct business in this rude manner.
@GregMoylan-pn6sr Says:
Australia does not need to recruit non-Australian citizens into our military. The smart way to open the new-recruits floodgates is to make the military an attractive career step... starting with SACKING ALL of the hideously-woke senior ADF leadership. Military careers are for capable, motivated war fighters... not for the powder puffs exclusively obsessed with diversity, equity & inclusion. Read about the RAAF's current culture on it's About Us / Overview web page.
@wyatthurts1729 Says:

@GregMoylan-pn6sr Says:
China is following Germany's 1933 - 1939 playbook... a "purely defensive" military buildup . We all know what happens next.
@johngodden4363 Says:
If this government recognises China as such a threat then why are we only spending an additional $5.7 billion over the next four years? That is pittance! Nothing in fact.
@user-vz8gf6le3b Says:
How so very convenient that this grub does his TV interview on the pier at Geelong, he has a real issue with always being close to home doesn’t he. Private airforce jets pick him up and drop him off at Avalon. Just an insipid excuse for a man, mincing his words in an attempt to give the appearance he is all over his portfolio, when in fact he’s just a well spoken plodder. How embarrassing that this clown is the Minister for Defence.
@loughman2629 Says:
