It can happen so quickly with little ones with minds of their own. My granddaughter was standing between 3 very attentive, doting adults and dashed off, laughing, thinking we were chasing her. We caught her just before she reached the street, but it had nothing to do with not paying proper attention.

It is not for reasons of a parents laziness, but for reasons such as this that it should be more common place. Parents get tired, they get momentairily distracted, they let their guard down - they're freaking human.

I ran away at 20 months old. I was able to scale a 6ft fence and dropped to the other side. No one would have guessed that was possible. My mom was in the kitchen making me some snacks. I walked 2 miles from my home where I was picked up by the police. Kids can be escape artists. We don't know the whole situation here.

Something similar happen to me at my barbershop, a little girl was playing near the street & traffic I ran out there just before she nearly fell off the curb, the mom was with her other kids if I can remember correctly, so scary ❤

I once stopped a drunk woman from going down a steep hill leading onto a busy intersection like that, it's not like she could have stopped at the junction with no brakes and initially I wasn't going to interfere as you know how drunk people can be, until I noticed she had a three year old child on the front of it. I took it off her, she started her drunken protest and I told her I'd just saved her and the childs life and told her to come back and look at what she was considering doing when she was sober, she looked down the hill and then she shut up, I think the penny dropped.
