Sadly it degrades the meaning of the award. It also degrades even further the status of this once fairly worthwhile member of the English Royal family. People of Royal birth give out awards , they do not receive or accept them. Their place in life is their service to their King/Queen/ country/people from which, if deserved, they quietly receive honours awarded by the Monarch for their duties done well. In the USA awards obviously have a totally different meaning.
