Energy Minister Angus Taylor says the government's plan for electric vehicles is built on technology and not taxes.
'This plan is built on the back of the core principles: technology, not taxes; choices, not mandates,' Mr Taylor said.
'A portfolio of technologies, not just one - batteries, plug-in hybrids, hydrogen vehicles - all of them are part of the mix of technologies that can bring down emissions in our economy, decarbonising our transport systems and provide better products in the process: \that is the heart of the strategy.
'What we are announcing today is an extra $178 million for this future brief fuels and vehicle strategy on top of the $72 million we have already committed.
"That is $50 million total: we expect to bring $500 million total investment will include private sector investments.'
