If they were serious about the need to move from coal. They would equip every house in Australia with solar panels while we wait for some cheap, clean way of generating power, such as Fusion. But what do they do? They close the coal fired stations and encourage their wealthy sponsors to build solar and wind farms so that they can make a profit from you.

There are ways Australia could maintain a domestic solar panel industry. It requires different thinking. Thinking that starts with "we have to make a profit to stay in business". We need a technology moat and co-ordinated government actions, but it is possible. This type of different thinking comes from having to think differently in order to survive. The problem with government money is it takes away the drive to survive. So they won't think differently and may fail.

The problem with supply-side solar and wind is that you need a full baseload backup in any case. It doesn't work on paper, and not in reality. Consumer side solar is great though.
