While the military aid that has been announced is quite substantial it must be realized that it is far from enough. There will, most probably, be a need for much more. We must begin to look on the situation as Ukraine being up against the combined military industrial contributions of both the entire Russian Federation and all of its allies and current trading partners who have continued to trade strategic materials and goods with Russia. That is a very very substantial portion of the global economy, and no indicatiion that China is in any real way willing to pull back from its support for Russia. Further to that we must keep in mind that Russia and some of its supporters are willing to put a much larger portion of their total GDPs to the war effort, and on top of that are willing to make trade deals that are very contrary to normal, global economy, pricing. For instance the recent announcement that Russia will provide natural gas to China at a very reduced price, obviously in exchange for what Russia intends to get, and is getting, from China. We must keep in mind that war tends to violate international trade agreements and pricing, in a real politik, and thus real economics environment where conflict conditions have more power to dictate deals than do any other considerations and agreements. We cannot expect "business as usual" conditions to prevail. In reality they are not and they will not and that has to be taken more fully into account by Ukraine and its allies and provident powers. We have to respond to that in very practical, material, terms, rather than in pointless verbal arguments. We must realize that most instances of economic diplomacy in that same regard, as to attempting to negotiate with Russia's supporting and allied powers are pointless wasted words. While they may seem to have superficially valid results, war is not about what seems to be true on the surface, but is really about what goes on under that surface. We cannot assume that Russia's supporting powers will negotiate anything in good faith. We must assume that they will not do so, unless they give clear and unequivocal proof of puilling back from suipporting Russia. Not as numbers on paper but as verifiable material details. In that sense I tend to believe Secretary Blinken is wasting his time in China.
