PM sparks fight over electric vehicles

????

The Prime Minister has unveiled his electric vehicle strategy – accelerating the rollout of charging and hydrogen refuelling stations to support 1.7 million electric vehicles nationwide by the end of the decade. The plan is expected to create more than 2,600 jobs through $500 million in combined public and private investment. Reducing emissions generated by transport is considered a crucial step to achieving net zero by 2050. Sky News Australia discussed the issue with the NRMA's Peter Khoury. Mr Khoury said there is "no doubt" Australia is definitely behind the rest of the world on electric car sales. "But if we look at the progress we've made in the last 6-12 months alone we think that we will catch up and catch up relatively quickly," he told Sky News Australia.

what cost of charging and what about price control of charging station .We already know fuel prices go up for holidays for no reason what will happen on electric vehicles charging station

all Evs are built with child slavery created batteries. All of them. 9 year old kids who have little fingers perfect for extracting cobalt. I have two EVs.

and how do they make the electricity. oil and coal

Useless bullshit it will never happen

We're behind other advanced countries.... ***because they are more advanced and haven't had Governments in denial on climate change science*** and aren't dominated by the Murdoch media.

Has zali steggall bought an EV yet?

Thinking back to the last election and all of the talk regarding the pros and cons of electric cars. All these new electric powered cars and any hybrid they develop still doesn't reduce emissions. The emissions to make them is huge. And they aren't renewable. Where do the batteries go when their time is up? Who gets rid of them? How do they do it? Then it costs nearly as much to buy a replacement battery as it does to buy a new electric car. These questions were the reason most Australians voted against the ALP last Fed election. Well, that and the fear of Bill Shorten at the helm. Each Way Albo isn't an option to me. The cars may be viable for someone living in the city, or the suburbs near a city. But outside there you will need to rely on the same fuel as you do today. Fancy towing a caravan around Australia with an electric car? Take on the Gibb River road? Even out to central Queensland, it will be impossible far beyond 2050. The net zero target fiasco is just a political game. Net zero will not happen in Australia in my lifetime and probably not yours either.

Oh God, NRMA pretending again .

Haha... In Canberra the public transport relies on diesel buses made in the 80s.
@Drakesy Says:
Whats that sky The renewable energy industry CREATES jobs!? Who would've thought? Liberals desperately trying to align with labor... I'm sorry scomo you're done
@RogerM88 Says:
You will still need ICE engines to power heavy machinery to mine those rare metals to produce battery packs.
@RogerM88 Says:
Wonder when these Politicians in virtue signaling, going to stop using private jets, and replace their luxury car fleet, with more affordable Nissan Leafs.
@davidgriffin2918 Says:
Should never subsidize electric cars ,, its not fair to people who can not afford new cars, also how is the government going to replace collecting revenue from fuel ,will our Electric bills go through the roof ? and petrol cars can be cleaner anyway. And what happened to cars on lpg ? Building All this ifistructure is more polution . And keeping your old car is clean for the environment, not updating for new every year , saying aussies use their old cars longer is a good thing ! Its the same as updating your phone every year , when does it stop ? Its consupmtion that is the problem one would think.
@davidporter4899 Says:
Untill you start storeing so called green energy to charge your so called green cars the whole thing is a massive waste of time.
@Auzze Says:
Maybe scotty should use a EV as his govement cars. More lies and bullshit, they are destroying this once great country.
@lubanskigornik282 Says:
whet a nonsense...
@johnandersonjjr Says:
Yeah let’s get central planning to spend more tax dollars to brainwash and force not ready for prime time electric cars .Better yet have the police force your population onto mass transit at gun point,just skip the coming EV disaster all together
@laneaj54 Says:
A electric car is so expensive that if you buy a equivalent petrol car you would have a lot of money for petrol more than 10 years worth I haven't had the money to buy a new car since 2006 and I haven't spent $30000 plus $8000 for another set of batteries stop ripping off normal people you corrupted beaucrats
@stenkarasin2091 Says:
While I don't doubt that for city driving the electric cars will be taken up, but it's difficult to see how such vehicles will be of much use in the bush.
@awc900 Says:
With a lot of electric vehicles the power grid won't cope.
@JoshOsRocks Says:
I have BA Falcon built right here in Australia with only 120000 kays on it. These things will reliably do 1million kays before needing to upgrade. I think ill hold onto my Falcon for another 30 years thank you Mr moron. The fact that my car was built in Australia rather than imported means it has a lower carbon footprint than an electric car shipped half way across the world. And who do you think you are, picking on average Australians for not updating their cars as often as you expect them to. Its better for the environment to buy a used car and repair it than rape the earths resources for another car that wasn't really needed.
@ricky6864 Says:
The lies continue..... Will never vote for any of these liars in major parties again
@garageblitztv3215 Says:
Apparently “Australians have one of the oldest fleets of cars and are not consuming like the rest of the world” - You cannot “consume” your way to a cleaner environment… Two international white papers shows that currently, without the clean mining of lithium and rare earth materials, and clean electricity, it takes over 100,000klms for an equivalent battery car to become cleaner than an ICE vehicle. It’s also worth noting that in Australia, vehicles make up less than 10% of our pollution output - a much better “bang for taxpayers bucks” would be to clean up our electricity grid first!
@JoshOsRocks Says:
I'm not buying a stupid electric car. Go away and get out of my life government.
@jtfoto1 Says:
Can't figure out the best way to generate base load power but wan't us to drive electric cars. Let's see how that works out eh.
@davidgayford Says:
Yeah let's all support China with the purchase of cheap Ev's.
@AbbyNormL Says:
Don’t you need a source of electricity to charge your electric car battery? Would that not require a fossil fueled or nuclear power generation facility to produce that electricity?
@Spartan-ts5dy Says:
If they want everyone driving electric cars how will people in apartments and condos charge thier vehicles???
@tomcat3070 Says:
Since Australian DONT build cars how can we be behind the world as we buy the worlds cars pffft, Good luck driving QLD to Perth in a EV
