Lichtman is wedded to his criteria, and is blind to the fact that the last debate was not a simple 'win/lose'. It was a catastrophic revelation.
He says Obama 'lost' all 3 debates before winning by a landslide. Sure, but those were actual debates. What we saw in the recent Trump-Biden face-off was of a different nature.
We saw a post-truth politican lying time after time and going almost completely unchallenged, because his opponent was struggling to recall the talking points he had been briefed on, and then struggling even harder to express them.
Imagine, for a moment, that Obama —instead of 'losing' a debate— had completely lost the plot and started babbling incoherently. Or had wet himself, or had physically assaulted his opponent. Absurd examples, but It's that extreme. Trump-Biden was not a debate, it was a litmus test. And American democracy failed it.
